Jess’s Gift of Grace

Jess gave up her Christmas gifts to help children in need.

Meet Jess, a student at a Lutheran school in Queensland with a heart for helping others.

“My name is Jess, and I am in Grade 6.

For several years an ALWS person has come to speak to us, and last year we did a big Unit of work on the 17 Global Development Goals. Pastor Martin also came to our school and talked about poverty.

This really inspired me to want to do something to help people living in poverty or who are refugees.

Mum and Dad had often said that Christmas is a time for giving.

When they asked me what I wanted for Christmas, I said I didn’t want anything for myself, but that I wanted to raise money for Gifts of Grace.

I made up a note to send to my extended family and Godparents telling them what I wanted to do and if they could help me with donations.

I was very keen to make one of the gifts the All Set for School Pack as I love books and love learning and going to school. It made me sad to think some children don’t have that opportunity.

I asked mum to make that donation exactly on Christmas Day as I wanted to know that a child somewhere would have a School Pack for Christmas.”

Jess raised $500 and bought Baby Bananas, Drip Drip, a Long Drop Loo, Food First, a School Set and two All Set for School Packs.

Thank you Jess for your kindness and commitment to helping those in need!
