Hope Spot 47 – When your gift is a ‘double bless’

A double blessing of stories from right here in Australia…

One of the joys of serving here at ALWS are the beautiful little stories we hear of grace touching lives in surprising ways.

Usually, those stories come from the countries where your kindness goes to work through ALWS …

… and at other times those stories are right here in Australia.

Today, let me share a couple of local stories with you, to lift your spirits as we go into the busyness of Christmas.

First up, meet Jen and granddaughter Maeve…

“So, I’d left the mail out on the bench for whomever to see. (I guess that’s the plus of physical mail.)

Maeve spotted the book about Nathan, and I noticed her reading it cover to cover. She then asked a few questions, which led to me showing her the Gifts of Grace catalogue.

A few days later she was here again and picked up the book again. She re-read it then asked if we could order some things. She asked questions about some things then chose what she thought would be best. Particularly the soap project impressed her, the stoke a stove and the bunnies of course.

Then came the maths as she filled out the form.

She referred to it again yesterday when I told her I’d caught up with you, who’d help create the book.

God is using it to “double bless”, here and there. 🤗🙏🤗”

Now, meet Ruth and Allyson.

They decided to drive over from SA to ALWS Head Office in Albury, and volunteer a week of their time to help pack Gifts of Grace.

(More than 700 people ordered gifts in the first three weeks, so it was wonderful having people like Allyson and Ruth volunteer their help – another ‘double bless’!)

Why did they do it? I’ll let them explain …

“It was a wonderful privilege getting to know a little about the variety of work you do for ALWS.

For me, it was such a joy to assist you in a small way by packing gifts of Grace Cards. I feel that the Grace Sheets will also make the Grace Cards more meaningful to those who receive them.

All being well I’d love to return next year to help you again.”

Ruth (on left in photo)

“Ruth and I not only had our eyes opened to the ongoing work undertaken by limited staff at the ALWS Albury Office, but also to the personalised care and dedication each person brings to this important work, with the continued need to support and care for ‘our neighbours’.”

Now meet Pastor Adrian.

Last week I was in the Barossa Valley, with Pastor Adrian Kitson and the congregation at St Petri, sharing about Gifts of Grace in the run-up to Christmas …

There were two services, so it was a ‘double blessing’ …

… but also meant I was doubly nervous! It’s a joy when I’ve finished, and can simply enjoy meeting the wonderful kind generous people who are ALWS. Like you!

(It’s an extra joy if there happen to be homemade sausage rolls on offer!)

With Australians expected to spend $11 BILLION just on gifts this Christmas …

… it’s encouraging to see people respond so positively to the idea of giving Gifts of Grace that bless families in the world’s poorest communities.

And what an example that is to our own communities too! Making it a ‘double blessing’.

Thank you for all you do to help others through ALWS.

I count it a great privilege to work for you here, and to see how you are a ‘double blessing’ – now, and ALWayS!
