How you can welcome a 'stranger'
When Akech’s father was killed in South Sudan, the 6 year old fled with her mum and baby brother Lang. The family has been welcomed by the Lutheran World Federation (LWF) team you support at Kakuma Refugee Camp.
Akech (right) says,
“I felt good when we get here. We get beans and maize.”
Perhaps it will surprise you to learn that, working through LWF, with the UN and other agencies, the cost to provide:
food + shelter + water + sanitation + education + health + security + social
services to one person at Kakuma Refugee Camp is around $1 a day.
Dedicate a Dollar a Day
You can ‘welcome a stranger’ as a friend by dedicating a dollar a day to help care for a refugee through LWF programs at Kakuma and Dadaab Refugee Camps in Kenya.
The programs you support are flexible enough to meet the most urgent needs at any time. That means your ‘dollar a day’ can always be directed where you have most impact on people’s lives.
Simply click here to download a form to make your dollar a day committment by credit card or direct debit.
When you dedicate your dollar a day, ALWS will welcome you with an ‘Asante Cloth’ sewn by refugee tailors at Kakuma.
We’ll also update you every six months with your Report Back, and supply an Annual Statement so you can claim any tax benefit you are due.
Thank you for welcoming a 'stranger' - and caring for refugees through ALWS.
