“Instead, store up riches for yourselves in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and robbers cannot break in and steal. For your heart will always be where your riches are.”
Matthew 6:20,21

Treasures in heaven

When you see the results of your ministry action through ALWS, it’s natural to want to do more.

One of the most effective ways to keep transforming lives is to leave a bequest in your Will to ALWS. After taking care of your family, this can be the biggest gift you give in your lifetime, and it’s a wonderful way to proclaim the values you hold important.

Of course, you should always discuss your plans with your loved ones, and consult a solicitor about your Will. To confidentially find out more about leaving a bequest to help people through ALWS, please contact 1300 763 407 * alws@alws.org.au

How your bequest will be used

We encourage you to consider allocating your bequest to the LLL-ALWS Support Fund. Money in the Support Fund is never spent, but generates a 5% return each year to help cover ALWS administration overheads. This frees up money for direct service to the poor. Because your bequest donation is never spent, it keeps helping year after year. And, you can be assured that your gift will always be safely administered by the LLL.

If you want your bequest to be used straightaway you can designate it to the ALWS Overseas Program, as determined by ALWS when it receives your bequest. If you wish to designate your gift to a particular country or project we encourage you to discuss this option with ALWS prior to formalizing your Will. This is for the practical reason that ALWS involvement in a particular project or country may end before you do!

How do I word my Will?

We strongly suggest you obtain professional guidance to assist and advise you in making a valid Will. However, the following wording could be considered:

For the Support Fund:

“I hereby bequeath to the Lutheran Laypeople’s League – ALWS Support Fund of 175 Archer Street, North Adelaide, South Australia (insert amount of bequest here) the annual return on which will be used by ALWS in support of its mission of mercy to the poor and oppressed in developing countries”.

Or, to be used straightaway:

“I hereby bequeath to the Lutheran World Service – Overseas Aid Fund of the Australian Lutheran World Service of Somerset Drive, Albury New South Wales (insert amount of bequest here) to be used by ALWS in support of its mission of mercy to the poor and oppressed in developing countries”.
