Schools

Inspire your students to make a difference
Here at ALWS we are committed to providing schools with education resources that can inspire, equip and encourage students to explore their role in issues like social justice, human rights and development.
At the same time we recognize and work under the clear Biblical mandate to care for those less fortunate than ourselves, and our resources reflect this understanding.
ALWS ‘Awareness’ school resources are targeted across all levels of primary and secondary, and designed to integrate with states’ school curricula.
Guest Speakers
ALWS staff members, including our Community Action Officer, are very happy to visit your school to deliver Chapel or classroom sessions. We can explore faith and service issues, specific areas of interest, or link closely to curriculum subjects. Simply contact: 1300 763 407 * alws@alws.org.au
Awareness Week
It doesn’t need to be a week, and it can be whenever suits you best … but here you’ll find a whole range of resources to inspire, inform and equip your students to be active and aware about justice and development. All year levels, linking in to a range of subject curriculum, focusing on a number of Australia-relevant countries.
Food Matters - focus on food issues in the developing world.
19th - 23rd March 2012 (or another week that suits your school better)
Awareness Days
ALWS are offering 14 Awareness Days in Qld, SA and Victoria at the beginning of 2012. Please take time to see when your school has the opportunity to be involved. We would love as many schools as possible to come – Awareness Days are a wonderful way for your students to learn about other people and a God who loves them dearly. If for any reason the date does not suit your school and you are in a position to attend another day, please let ALWS know.
If your school is not on the ‘schools invited’ list, please don’t think that we have forgotten you! We would love an invitation to come and visit your school throughout the year.

Curriculum Resources
As students look to the world around them, they have many questions about poverty, justice, human rights and development. These resources enable you to explore these questions with authority and relevance, using real world examples, and leading to practical action.
Turning awareness into action
This flexible, involving, contemporary action program offers schools and students a variety of exciting ways to raise money to transform people’s lives through ALWS. Our Community Action Officer can support your action initiatives, and we can also offer you a wide range of programs to support that link to your students’ interests.
Teacher Study Tour 2012 - Cambodia
The 2012 Teacher Study Tour will be an opportunity to explore development and justice initiatives in Cambodia. The team will travel to Cambodia in the 2012 June/July holidays. Applicants have already been chosen for this life-changing opportunity.
ALWS Student Christian Service and Learning Tour
The 2012 Student Christian Service and Learning Tour will enable students and teachers from five Lutheran Schools to explore development and justice initiatives in Cambodia and provide opportunities for the group to serve with the people in the development work that is happening in villages. This tour will occur after school finishes in December. Applicants for this Service and Learning Tour will be selected in February.
